Hi all, I'm starting today a series of posts about my journey in learning Motion Design.
Like any web worker (I hope), I enjoy learning new stuff all the time. Css techniques, keeping up with design trends, Html specs, Javascript APIs... This is great, I love doing that and trying new stuff. But lately I felt like I had to chose between going deeper into frontend development (most likely hardcode JS stuff) or working on a new skill in the design area.
I picked the last one for a few reasons :
Well first of all I'll write those posts for me. Some kind of diary if you will. I like to look back sometimes, see how I evolved, the obstacles I faced and such, so I want to keep track of that.
Also I think that lot of people will one day need to pick a "new skill" and work on that. It's not always easy and even if they don't decide to dig into Motion Design, reading that could help them see the problem that may arise and avoid them.
I saw a lot of awesome tuts online to get started with After Effects, but unfortunately they were in english and I can't my AE to change language so it was rather difficult to find my way through the interface. I decided to pay for a premium plan on Mattrunks (http://www.mattrunks.com/) and watched the french videos... I'm really happy about it, not all of them show techniques I'm interested into but I'm still glad I paid for the premium plan.
I know a lot of stuff are free on the Internet, but sometimes it doesn't hurt to pay something and if you do a good job on your side, that new skill will get you a higher pay so it's worth it.
After about 3 hours following a tut, I finally ended up with something I was happy about. It's an animation of a website... I'm sure you'll recognize what website I used for that test.
